Blaine Gamst
Executive Director

A native of Willow River, Minn., Gamst has a B.A. from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. with a major in health care administration and long-term care. He is also a graduate of Ecumen's Velocity Leadership Development and the St. Catherine University graduate-level certificate program in Organizational Leadership.

Gamst assumes the Lakeshore Executive Director role from John Korzendorfer, who recently was promoted to Ecumen Regional Executive Director of Operations.

Minnesota State University-Moorhead and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

John has served on numerous committees and board roles for Leading Age Minnesota.

“I had the opportunity to remove a 230 bed one-size fits all nursing home serving 300 seniors into a vibrant senior community that serves well over 1,000 seniors annually and creates home” John says about the best part of working with Ecumen Lakeshore.

John has been a leader and an innovator with Ecumen Lakeshore since 1990, he now serves as a Regional Executive Director.

John and his wife Mary have resided in Greater Duluth for the past 25 years; they have 3 adult children and 5 marvelous granddaughters.

Jena Evans
Marketing Manager

Jena has a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She worked as a medical social worker for a few years before transitioning to marketing.  Her education and experience in social work has proven beneficial as Jena is enthusiastically able to relate and connect with people.  

Jena is a member of the Duluth Rotary Club #25 and has served on several committees. Jena has also been active with Duluth Chamber of Commerce, Fuse Duluth, Duluth Playhouse, The Alzheimer’s Association, Go Red for Women, American Cancer Society, and The Aging Network.

“The view is incredible, the campus is gorgeous but the people are really what bring me to work each day” Jena says about working at Ecumen Lakeshore.  Jena is devoted to helping people and connecting the community to the resources they need to live a healthy and enjoyable life.  Jena also enjoys working alongside the many talented and dedicated employees at Ecumen Lakeshore—people here truly care---it is apparent as soon as you step on our campus.

While away from work, Jena and her family enjoy traveling and staying active in the Duluth community.

Roxanne Sternberg
Residence Director of the Crest

Roxanne has been the Residence Director of The Crest since July of 2006. Prior to accepting this position, she started at Lakeshore as a receptionist in October of 2005. Roxanne has a vast background in the in hospitality industry, having owned and operated the Lakeview Castle for 28 years along with her husband Andrew and his family. This experience groomed her well for her role as Residence Director of The Crest, as customer service is of utmost importance at Ecumen Lakeshore.

Roxanne is a member of The Duluth Lions Club, and has served on several committees including Pancake Day, Apple Harvest, Mid-Winter-Convention, and Tail-Twisting. She is also a member of the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce.

She is extremely passionate about her role at Ecumen Lakeshore, and couldn’t be happier in her second career! Working with the senior population and sharing her compassionate and caring nature are what brings her the greatest joy. Roxanne also feels very fortunate to work with so many wonderful and talented individuals who excel in their professions at Ecumen Lakeshore. 

Roxanne and Andrew have two sons, and have just welcomed a daughter-in-law into their family. In her spare time, Roxanne enjoys the outdoors. She loves to bike, garden, cook and doesn’t miss a chance to go fishing on the big lake.

Rita Walker
Director of The Shores Assisted Living and Memory Care

Rita’s career in healthcare began as a certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA).  She transitioned to her role as activities director, at the former Lakeshore Lutheran Nursing Home.  Rita has been the director of The Shores since 2006.

Rita has worked at Lakeshore for over 30 years. When asked what she likes best about working at Lakeshore, Rita responded, ” Every day is a new day! The opportunity for me to learn from the generations before me is amazing! I feel so fortunate to be able to help families learn about the variety of services available to them. To be with them every step of the way from the first introductions, to move in and then having to say goodbye, is a journey I am glad to take with them”.

When not at work, Rita enjoys a variety of physical activities, creating items by repurposing old items, and of course her family!

Kristin Spencer
Human Resource Director

Kristin has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Kristin is a member of the Northland Human Resource Association, Duluth Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Professional Network and Fuse Duluth.

According to Kristin, “Each and every day is a new opportunity to grow, make a difference and to accomplish the impossible. I absolutely love that I have the ability to work so closely with a variety of individuals ranging from employees, residents and the Duluth community.  Our promise at Ecumen is to innovate, empower and honor. I can truly say that each and every one of us here at Lakeshore plays a huge role in achieving our promise and that to me is absolutely incredible”.

Aside from work Kristin enjoys exploring the beautiful Duluth community which she feels fortunate to be a part of, she also enjoys spending time with family and friends. Whether it’s hiking, camping, fishing or skiing – she loves it all.
